Father O'Malley's 4th Annual Holy Week LectureThe Virtue of Doubt" Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 7:30PM Fordham Prep’s Hall of Honor Fr. O’Malley has taught English and Religious Studies, and directed numerous theatre productions in his many years at Fordham Prep. Before heading to the Prep, Fr. O’Malley taught and directed at McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester. In addition to his directing, he is also known in the theatre for his appearance as Father Dyer in The Exorcist. As an author, Fr. O’Malley has published 31 books including Choosing to Be Catholic, Why Be Catholic?, God: The Oldest Question, Meeting the Living God, and The Fifth Week. He is an entertaining and engaging speaker. His lecture this year will surely provide all that attend much to reflect on during Holy Week. We hope you can join us. Alumni Class Homework AssignmentOver the last few months, we have made a concerted effort to obtain alumni e-mail addresses to add to the alumni list. As of February 18, we have 3,260 alumni e-mail addresses. Our total active alumni list numbers 11,170. We would like to increase the number of alumni e-mail addresses. Unfortunately, we lost e-mail contact with a number of alumni who have changed service providers. We would like to connect or reconnect with as many of our graduates as possible. Alumni are asked to encourage their Prep friends and classmates in their e-mail address book to join or rejoin the Prep Alumni e-mail list by sending their e-mail addresses to alumnioffice@fordhamprep.org. The class that increases its list the most will receive an official Atta Boy! The leader list will be posted here on Fordham Prep Connect.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with producer Abigail Disney (yes, a relation of THE Disney family) and activist Agnes Fallah Kamara-Umunna, a Liberian woman who was interviewed in the film. Unfortunately this is during spring break, but if you plan to be within an hour’s commute to the city, don’t miss this opportunity to meet and speak with an incredibly inspiring producer and activist! Pray the Devil Back to Hell tells of a community of Liberian women, both Christian and Muslim, who unified their efforts for peace amidst a civil war and a shattered country. Thousands of women armed only with white T-shirts confronted Liberian warlords and nonviolently forced a resolution during stalled peace talks. Their accomplishments and the community that formed over the common goal of peace make for an incredibly inspiring film. This screening is one of the year’s many events put on by Mercy Center, a community center for women and their families in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx that is celebrating its 20th anniversary. To register for this event, call 718-993-2789, or emailinfo@mercycenterbronx.org Looking for Internships for Prep SeniorsAs Prep seniors finish the college acceptance process and finalize their plans for the next four years, they are offered the chance to look further into possible career paths through the Senior Internship Program. Under the leadership of Theresa Napoli, the Assistant Principal for Academics and Student Activities, the Senior Internship Program encourages members of the class to find an internship for the fourth quarter marking period.
The process begins after January’s mid-term exams. Students applying for an internship submit a written proposal to the program director by January 30th. Internships can be paid or unpaid and can involve a position with a company or organization which has some career training value to the student. A project that develops the skills or interests of a senior or extended hours at a service site are other options. A committee composed of the program director, the Director of College Counseling and senior teachers reviews all proposals. Seniors who are accepted into the program are not required to attend classes except for advanced placement and college classes. Throughout the internship, students must submit a one page paper each week reflecting on the week’s events. At the end of the internship, each student must give a twenty minute presentation before a committee in which they discuss their internship or research findings of their project. The Senior Internship Program needs the support of the Prep community. If you are able to provide six week internships that start in late March and end in early May, please contact Assistant Principal for Academics and Student Life Theresa Napoli by telephone at (718) 367-7500 ext. 261 or by e-mail at napolit@fordhamprep.org. Prep Archivists Looking for MaterialsThe Prep Archives is always seeking to complete its collection of old Prep publications. We are currently searching for any old issues of The Ramkin – not the yearbook, but rather, the student literary journal of the same name that was produced between the 1930s and early 1960s. Consider donating your old copies to the Prep Archives – a great way to help preserve Prep history (and perhaps clean out your attic at the same time!) Please contact the Alumni Office for details.
