Looking for Internships for Prep Seniors

As Prep seniors finish the college acceptance process and finalize their plans for the next four years, they are offered the chance to look further into possible career paths through the Senior Internship Program.  Under the leadership of Theresa Napoli, the Assistant Principal for Academics and Student Activities, the Senior Internship Program encourages members of the class to find an internship for the fourth quarter marking period.

The process begins after January’s mid-term exams.  Students applying for an internship submit a written proposal to the program director by January 30th.  Internships can be paid or unpaid and can involve a position with a company or organization which has some career training value to the student.  A project that develops the skills or interests of a senior or extended hours at a service site are other options.

A committee composed of the program director, the Director of College Counseling and senior teachers reviews all proposals.  Seniors who are accepted into the program are not required to attend classes except for advanced placement and college classes.

Throughout the internship, students must submit a one page paper each week reflecting on the week’s events.  At the end of the internship, each student must give a twenty minute presentation before a committee in which they discuss their internship or research findings of their project.

The Senior Internship Program needs the support of the Prep community.  If you are able to provide six week internships that start in late March and end in early May, please contact Assistant Principal for Academics and Student Life Theresa Napoli by telephone at (718) 367-7500 ext. 261 or by e-mail at napolit@fordhamprep.org.
